This site is run by an individual - Martin - but relies on input from many others, both on these pages and as links to other content.
What models do people fly?
Models are built up using kits or plans, often plans found on the internet. If looking for high fidelity to the real plane, scale modellers will adapt existing plans or make their own plan. There are different types of plane, as shown below. Cars are included as they run with aero engines.
Free Flight
We just let them go...well not quite. Free flight models fly in circles and often have means bring them down - dethermalisers
Radio Assist
Free-flight models that have a minimum of radio control to keep them within the field, sometimes used for competitions.
Control Line
Powered models constrained by wires. They fly around the pilot in a hemisphere. They have a direct connection to the pilot and can perform aerobatics. See photos here
Tethered Cars
Car models of the Retro/Vintage/Sport type, run on a circular track and limited by a tether. They can be shaft driven or propeller driven (aircars) by standard aero or special twin shaft engines.
